Police search for vandals who damaged slide

The St. Charles Park District is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of vandals responsible for damaging a slide at Mount St. Mary Park.

On Monday evening, park safety staff discovered a hole burned into a slide in a playground of the park at Prairie Street and Route 31. The slide is located at the Community Service Clubs Playground funded by St. Charles service clubs including the St. Charles Noon Kiwanis Club, St. Charles Rotary Foundation representing the St. Charles Noon Rotary Club, the St. Charles Jaycees and Unity Masonic Lodge No. 48.

"It is the park board's intent to send a clear message that this type of behavior will not be tolerated," park district director Jim Breen said. "Vandalism is an affront to the taxpayers and results in the unnecessary expenditure of tax dollars. We need help from our citizens to keep an eye on local parks and report any vandalism to the St. Charles Police Department by calling 911."

Anyone with information about this recent act of vandalism or damage done at any St. Charles park is encouraged to call the parks department at (630) 584-1885, the fire department at (630) 377-4457, or the police department at (630) 377-4435.
