Police: Aurora woman stole guns from relative

Police are still searching for a missing handgun and shotgun after arresting an Aurora woman accused of stealing the weapons.

Police say on Saturday Jasmine A. Edwards, 18, of the 100 block of South Lake Street stole the guns from a residence on the 300 block of Raymond Street in Elgin, where a family member lives.

Elgin police worked with their counterparts in Aurora to find Edwards, but when police arrested her, she did not have the weapons.

"We still do not have the weapons," Elgin Deputy Chief Jeff Swoboda said Wednesday. "Our investigation is continuing to find the weapons."

Edwards was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and theft. Edwards was hit with the second charge because she is younger than 21, Swoboda said.

Edwards must post $5,000 to be released. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was still being held at the Kane County jail.
