Democratic motives are very transparent

We finally have transparency in politics. In Massachusetts, the Senate voted to amend a 2004 state law which eliminated the governor's power to appoint a temporary replacement to fill any U.S. Senate seat that became vacant until a special election could be held.

The 2004 bill received very strong support from Sen. Kennedy himself in order to block Republican Gov. Mitt Romney from appointing a Republican to fill a vacated Senate seat.

Now that Kennedy's seat is vacant and would have remained so until a special election could be held on Jan. 19, the law has been changed to allow Democrat Gov. Deval Patrick to select a temporary short-term successor immediately. Gov. Patrick very quickly chose Paul G. Kirk, Jr., to fill the seat. Kirk has previously been Edward Kennedy's aide and is now executor of his will. Without this change, the Democrats would have had one less vote on any of the issues they are trying to push through. Ah, transparency!
