BGHS takes on classic tragedy, 'Antigone'
Buffalo Grove High School will present Greg Banks' modernized adaptation of Sophocle's Greek tragedy, "Antigone," Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 29-31, in the school theater. Thursday's performance is at 7 p.m. and play begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. A preview performance for gold card holders and staff members will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
The play examines such critical conflicts as young vs. old, woman vs. man, individual vs. ruler, and family vs. state. Strong-willed, 15 year-old Antigone (played by Cassie Johnstone) defies her Uncle, King Creon (portrayed by Mack Rivkin). The king has prohibited Antigone from burying her brother, who died as an enemy of the state. Will Antigone successfully plead her case as she adheres to her principles? Two points are certain: power and riches are never to be taken for granted, and leadership demands sacrifice.
The director is Beth Wells, technical director is Ed Moon, costumes are coordinated by Debbie Andres, and Betsy Ludemann is the house manager.
Other cast members are Ambria Bernardi, Sharon Cho, Samantha Demarco, Elise Hackl, Trevor Harris, Natalie Kozelka, Sophia Kravets, Becky Krause, Jillian Lynch, Christina Melgar, Laura Newman, Peter Noon, Brian Pawlak, Matt Perek, Lexie Polk, Joe Reyes, Claire Rutowski, Lindsey Smith, Brandon Sokol, David Sye, and Elaine Zielinski.
