Bar addition roof collapses in Barrington

A member of a construction crew received minor injuries Tuesday afternoon after he fell through the roof while doing work on top of a downtown Barrington bar.

Paramedics took the man to the hospital as a precaution, Barrington Fire Department Assistant Chief Christian Toussaint said.

Workers were on top of the roof at the Wool Street Grill and Sports Bar at 128 Wool St. with a load of drywall. While on top of the unfinished trusses, part of the roof collapsed and the worker fell through with the drywall load, Toussaint said.

Emergency crews were called at 1:06 p.m. to the bar, which is just south of Lake-Cook Road and west of Northwest Highway. The man was up and moving before ambulances arrived, Toussaint added.

Wool Street Grill remained open for business. An employee said an addition to back of the restaurant was under construction and that some beams collapsed as the roof was being installed.
