Peace celebration to run Oct. 15 to Nov. 15
Celebration of Peace 2009 in Naperville, sponsored by ThinkGlobal Arts Foundation in partnership with community organizations, runs Oct. 15 to Nov. 15.
The celebration includes creative stamps design, peace poster and peace essay/poem contests for students in Naperville's two public school districts and private schools; a charity drive to collect school and art supplies; speakers; a film festival; and a multicultural event. Oct. 15: Peace buttons are available from ThinkGlobal Arts.
The Arts for Peace charity drive begins. Donors should fill a binder with school and art materials. Students may turn in the binders to their homeroom teachers, or donors may call to have the binders picked up.
Oct. 16: Alex Counts gives the keynote address open only to students at Naperville Central High School. A cocktail reception, dinner and public talk will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Call for location.
Oct. 26: Submissions due for the Creative Stamps Design, Peace Poster and Peace Essay/Poem contests.
Oct. 29: A film festival runs 7 to 9:30 p.m. at North Central College's Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Nov. 2-6: Nani Agbeli is artist-in-residence at Naperville Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 204 schools.
Nov. 12: A panel discussion runs 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Meiley-Swallow Hall.
Nov. 13: Contest winners are announced at 7 p.m. at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.
Nov. 14: "We Are One," a multicultural event, runs 7 to 9 p.m. at Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
