Don't bash Christians for stand on gays
I'm not asking the Daily Herald to stop printing offensive, Christian-bashing letters like the one from Mr. Stephen Beisiegel. But, I am asking the paper to be fair and print letters from those who respond to these attacks.
According to the Center for Disease Control, men who have sex with men made up 68 percent of all men living with HIV AIDS in 2005. While this group of men makes up only 5 percent to 7 percent of the U.S. population, it is the leading transmission category and has been since 1981. Globally, an estimated 33.2 million people lived with HIV in 2007, including 2.5 million children. 1.2 million abortions occurred in the U.S. in 2005.
The Guttmacher Institute reports that about 98 percent of abortions are elective. Therefore, over 1.1 million of these abortions were by choice and for reasons other than rape or incest, risk to maternal health, or fetal abnormality. AIDS and abortion could be virtually eliminated if individuals only made behavioral changes. Only the hardest of hearts would not have compassion to persuade others to avoid the pain of these circumstances.
In a rare moment of tenderness, Stephen states he has made it through the struggle. Yet, based upon his invective, maybe the healing was incomplete. Perhaps mankind's needs are nobler than allowing ourselves to be controlled or defined by our physical appetites.
