Lombard couple gets engaged inside electronics store

Appliance shopping and romance don't usually go hand in hand, but a Lombard couple brought them together in style on Saturday.

Jonathan Leicht got down on one knee and proposed to Edyta Czarnowska in the big-screen television room at Abt Electronics in Glenview on Saturday. His proposal came a few seconds after the picture on the TVs changed from the Ohio State-Wisconsin football game to a still photo of the couple.

"Well, what do you say?" Leicht asked.

"Sure!!!" Czarnowska said.

After a few celebratory hugs and kisses, Leicht explained that he and Czarnowska had gone to Abt Electronics on their first date exactly one year earlier.

"When we met, she'd mentioned that she was looking for a TV," he said. "I referred her here and said I'd be happy to go with her, and that it would include dinner after. A few weeks later she called me and we came here."

After setting up the proposal plan with the staff at Abt, Leicht told Czarnowska that it would be fun to visit the store again to celebrate a year of dating.

"I told her we could also look for a dishwasher, which we actually do need," he said with a laugh.

Czarnowska said she was surprised and delighted by the proposal.

"It's so sweet that he arranged all this," she said. Then, after a quick look at her new ring, she blurted, "I'm engaged!"

Abt General Manager Marc Cook said the store provided the couple with a gift card and offered them a free dinner at a nearby restaurant.
