Mizowek leads Grayslake North to victory

Senior Glenn Mizowek has seen his team go from zero wins his sophomore year to a school-record three this season.

He played a big part in Grayslake North's 21-6 defeat of Dixon in a nonconference football game Friday night.

Grayslake North improved to 3-4, and it was the first time that the Knights had won their homecoming game.

"This was due to a lot of the offseason stuff in the weight room and training," Mizowek said."This year is a big year. We wanted to make the playoffs. We knew in order to do that we had to take it one game at a time and now we are going to focus on next week's game against (Grayslake) Central."

Mizowek scored 2 touchdowns and rushed for 97 yards on 10 carries.

In what proved to be the winning touchdown, Mizowek scored from 5 yards out with seven minutes left in the second quarter.

His second touchdown was the final one of the game. He capped a 62-yard drive with a 4-yard run around the right end with 10:38 left in the fourth quarter.

"When we scored the first touchdown, I felt that the momentum changed and then our defense caused them to have several turnovers," Mizowek said.

The Knights' defense also had a big game with 5 fumble recoveries.

"It's a much-needed, much-deserved win," North coach Steve Wood said. "We started out slow against a team that we didn't know a lot about and we made some adjustments."

Dixon (2-5) scored first as running back Ricky Laskowski ran in from 2 yards out to give the Dukes a 6-0 lead with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

Laskowski led all rushers with 147 yards.

Then it was all Grayslake North the rest of the game. Brandon Sackett scored from 4 yards out and Matt Robinson's PAT gave the Eagles a 13-7 lead with 4:27 left in the third quarter.

Quarterback Sean Brennan had also had a big game by completing 5 of 9 passes for 73 yards. His biggest pass of the game was a 40-yard strike to Robinson down to the Dixon 4.

"There were times when it seemed like they outplayed us," Dixon coach Tony Agrimonti said. "I thought it was a good matchup on both sides and they have a lot of great athletes on both sides. I give them a lot of credit and I don't want to take anything away from them, but we just had times in the game when we gave it to them. They definitely took it to us and they deserved to win the game."
