Scouting Leyden @ Proviso East
WEST SUBURBAN GOLD
Leyden (4-2, 3-1) at Proviso East (1-5, 1-2)
When 1:30 p.m. Saturday
Last week Leyden d. Willowbrook 40-6; Proviso East lost to Downers Grove South 42-6
Outlook Leyden owes Proviso East more than a few but would gladly take some payback here to become playoff eligible for the second time in three years. The Pirates have won the last eight meetings but a season with high expectations already has them out of the postseason. "With the talent they have they can beat any team at any time," said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani. "They're a 1-5 team that should have been a little better so you don't know where they're at mentally. They're kind of a dangerous team." Especially with two-way threats in Illlinois-bound Corey Cooper and Minnesota-bound Antoine Lewis in the backfield and secondary, QB William Crowder and RB Darnell Swanigan for a team that wants to air it out. "We've worked hard this week on coverage and it's matter if our guys (DEs Jeff Cascella and Dan Kiebler) get to the quarterback and shake it up a little bit," Cerasani said. The extra day could help Leyden RB Angel Maldonado (1,298 yards, 16 TDs), who has a tweaked groin but is expected to play.
