NORTHEASTERN ATHLETIC
Christian Liberty (0-6, 0-6) at Rockford Christian (6-0, 6-0)
When 7 p.m. today
Last week Christian Liberty lost to North Shore Country Day 36-15; Rockford Christian d. CICS-Longwood 19-0
Outlook: Christian Liberty eliminated some of the nagging mistakes in fumbles and penalties as senior QB Nathan Elleson made his season debut by completing half of his 14 passes for 35 yards. Zach Cavanaugh and David Sotomayor also combined for 99 yards rushing. "Our line play is much better and they have been a lot more aggressive," said CLA coach Jim Kaulkins. "I think no matter what we do, we're going to be playing better from here on out and there will be marked improvement." This week won't be easy against the sole Northeastern Athletic leader, which got some good news when Rockford Auburn transfer RB Arthur Ford (756 yards, 9 TDs) is back after missing last week while the IHSA investigated his eligibility. Rockford Christian isn't 6-0 for the first time by relying solely on Ford as QB Mason Crosby (1,074 yards, 12 TDs) has two top targets in Drake Grinelle (25 catches, 468 yards, 5 TDs) and Drew Anderson (17-256, 3 TDs). "They have a well-balanced team and it's going to be a challenge," Kaulkins said.
