St. Charles man faces child porn charges

Bond was set at $25,000 Thursday for a St. Charles man accused of downloading child pornography.

Gregory J. Mexin, 20, was arrested Wednesday after authorities searched his apartment on the 1300 block of Prairie Street and seized three computers.

Police said Mexin downloaded illegal files in May and had offered to help distribute child pornography. His arrest followed a monthlong undercover operation involving St. Charles police and the Illinois Attorney General's office, who said they tracked the illegal activity to Mexin's Internet Protocol address.

Mexin faces two counts of child pornography possession, a Class 1 felony with a standard sentencing range of four to 15 years in prison or probation. He appears to have no prior criminal history in Kane County, according to court records.

Mexin's next court date is Oct. 22 in front of Kane County Judge James C. Hallock.
