Rep. Roskam, here's my view on reform
Dear Congressman Roskam,
You had left a phone message on my answering machine yesterday asking about my views on the health care issue. I tried calling you back, got a message that your mailbox was full and to hold on and be transferred elsewhere. The elsewhere turned out to be another recording telling me "goodbye" and the next thing I heard was dial tone.
My views on health care are:
1. We need a strong, affordable public option plan to compete with the out of control greed of the for profit insurance company's.
2. We need a law that puts an end to the previous condition option, which prevents people from being insured or allows company's to cancel coverage when someone files a claim.
3. We need a cap on insurance premiums, co-pays, and deductibles.
4. We need people in the Republican Party to quit making up lies such as death panels, free health care for illegals, telling the elderly that the government may tell them to die because they are running out of money.
5. We need responsible, adult leadership that is looking out for the working people in this country and can offer real ideas to the debate rather than the same, tired old garbage of tax cuts and the market will fix itself.
You have left me messages in the past. I have e-mailed you. I have never heard back. Probably because your views, as usual, mirror those of your Republican leaders and your seatmate Joe Wilson.
Congressman, your party, in the past at least, really was a Grand Old Party. Dirksen, Ford, George H.W. Bush. Intelligent, fair-minded people.
You should really think and think hard about the company you keep.
