FBI seeks info on 'Einstein Bandit' accused in bank heists
The FBI is out to solve the puzzle posed by the so-called Einstein Bandit.
Named for the distinctive "E=mc2" logo appearing on both a cap and a jacket he's worn in his bank robberies, the Einstein Bandit is believed responsible for seven bank jobs in just over the last two years, including two in the suburbs.
He is credited with robbing the TCF Bank branches at 423 W. Dundee Rd., Palatine, in May and at 652 Kirk Rd., St. Charles, in April. He most recently robbed the Bank of America branch at 1585 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, on Aug. 14.
He's described as a black male, 40 to 50 years old, 6 feet tall or perhaps 6-foot-2 with a heavy build. He typically wears a dark baseball cap, sunglasses and dark gloves and brandishes a semiautomatic handgun.
The Chicago FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force, comprising FBI special agents, Chicago Police detectives and Cook County Sheriff's Office investigators, is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.
