Larkin names Lott new varsity coach
Larkin High School announced Wednesday it has hired Alphonso Lott to take over as the school's varsity girls basketball coach.
He replaces Amy Silverman, who recently stepped down after 14 years leading the program.
"We're excited that he's interested in having this spot," said Larkin athletic director John Young.
Young said Lott, who could not be reached for comment, is a consultant in private business and is studying for his teaching degree. Lott is also an assistant sophomore football coach at Larkin.
A Google search showed that Lott played college football at Millikin University and was signed to a free-agent contract by the Dallas Cowboys in 1988. The Google search did not confirm if Lott actually played in the NFL but he is not listed on the all-time roster in the Cowboys media guide.
Young noted that Lott had coached girls basketball at North Chicago High School, which Google showed was in 1997-98.
At Larkin, Lott will take over a struggling program that was 2-23 last season.
