No sense investing in Elgin's downtown
Of all the cities in the Fox River valley, Elgin shouldn't be the one that has police and fire departments that are undermanned, underequipped, or underpaid with the tax and riverboat money the city receives every year.
Elgin years ago became a thriving city because of the railroad and the power the water in the river could supply businesses with. But times have changed, and Elgin didn't do a very good job of changing. So now, all the time and money they are putting into the old downtown business area of the city can't compete with all the room and parking in all the malls along Randall Road that surround Elgin.
It's time to accept that a business area in the city of Elgin is long gone, never to return.
