State GOP plans gubernatorial debate

The Illinois Republican Party has scheduled a debate for the long list of GOP candidates for governor to take place after contenders file petitions to secure a spot on the ballot.

The debate is set for Nov. 5 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers at 6:30 p.m. Petitions to get on the ballot for the February primary are due into the state elections board on Nov. 2.

Those who have declared an intention of running include state Sen. Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale, DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom of Naperville, former state party Chairman Andy McKenna of Chicago, state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, conservative commentator Dan Proft of Wheaton and businessman Adam Andrzejewski of Hinsdale.

Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan has also floated his name as a possible contender.
