2 charged in Kane Co. courthouse fight
Two Aurora men accused of murder face new charges after attacking a fellow inmate at the Kane County courthouse in St. Charles, police said Monday.
Enrique L. Torres, 26, and Lorenzo I. Alvarez, 22, were each charged with aggravated battery and mob action after the altercation Friday morning.
Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said the men were at the courthouse on Route 38 for scheduled hearings when the fight broke out in a holding cell. A third inmate suffered minor injuries.
"We don't know why the fight occurred," Gengler said.
Torres is charged with attempted murder in Kane County in connection with an April 14, 2007, shooting in Aurora that also resulted last month in a murder indictment against him in DuPage County. He already was sentenced last year to 72 months in prison for an unrelated crime that ended in a police pursuit and crash in Kane County.
Alvarez also faces murder charges in Kane County in connection with a March 6, 2007, shooting in Aurora, according to court records.
Alvarez returns to court Oct. 23, and Torres on Nov. 6.
