What's in store this week at U-46 schools

Board meeting
• On Monday, the board of education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. For information on the board, visit the "School Board & Community" link at u-46.org.
Bartlett High
• On Monday, each grade decorates a hallway according to the homecoming theme, "The Cities Never Sleep." Class council will judge their work later that day. From 5 to 8 p.m. "Hawkfest" will take place in the parking lot (DJ and fireworks). For Spirit Day, wear a white T-shirt. On Tuesday, there will be a classroom door decorating contest during third period. For Spirit Day, wear crazy hair/Band T-shirt. On Wednesday at 6 p.m. there will be a powder puff football game at Millennium Field (freshmen/sophomores) and at 7:30 p.m. (junior/senior). For Spirit Day, wear a jersey or sports clothes. Thursday is Spirit Day and the theme is world traveler or citizen from a major world city. On Friday, the homecoming assembly and king and queen coronation will take place in the gym. The homecoming game begins at 7:30 p.m. at Millennium Field vs. St. Charles East. For Spirit Day, wear school colors. Saturday is the homecoming dance from 7 to 10 p.m.
Larkin High
• On Wednesday, homecoming begins with a powder puff football game at 5 p.m. at Memorial Field. On Friday, the pep assembly will be held at 1:15 p.m., followed by the homecoming parade at 2:30 p.m. The homecoming game for sophomores begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 7:30 p.m. The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at Memorial Field between games. The homecoming dance will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Streamwood High
• On Thursday, a choral concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $1 per student, $2 per adult or $6 per family. Seniors 62 and older living in the district may attend U-46 plays and concerts for free if they pick up a platinum card from Paula in the Communications office. Harriet Gifford
• On Monday, fourth-grade students at Harriet Gifford Elementary will visit the U-46 Planetarium in Elgin.
Horizon
• Students and staff at Horizon Elementary School will be taking part in the "Jumpstart's Read for the Record." They will be reading Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" during morning announcements.
Huff
• On Thursday, a health clinic sponsored by U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center will be held for children birth to 18 years old from 3 to 6 p.m. at Huff Elementary School, 801 Hastings St., Elgin. Lowrie
