Judge announces bid for 5th Lake Co. subcircuit
Circuit Judge Diane Winter has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for circuit judge in the 5th Lake County subcircuit.
Winter, of Lake Barrington, was appointed an associate judge in 2000 and named a circuit judge by the state Supreme Court last October.
Currently the presiding judge of the probate and arbitration division and the traffic and misdemeanor division, Winter was in private practice for more than 20 years before moving to the bench.
She has served as president of the Lake County Bar Association and the Jefferson Inn of Court.
Winter has been endorsed by all countywide Republican office holders.
The 5th subcircuit covers the Barrington communities, Fox River Grove, Lake Zurich, Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Volo.
Fundraiser set
The Lake County Court Appointed Special Advocates has scheduled its annual fundraiser, CASAblanca VI, for Nov. 7 at the Westin Chicago North Shore hotel.
Themed "Here's looking at you, kids," the event will feature a dinner and live and silent auctions.
The volunteer advocates help abused children find a permanent safe home and prepare reports for judges evaluating the life, needs and environment of abused young people.
The five previous fundraisers have netted $660,000, which is used to support the training and supervision of nearly 250 volunteers serving more than 500 children.
The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the hotel at Milwaukee Avenue and Lake-Cook Road in Wheeling.
Tickets are $250 per person.
Reservations can be made by calling (847) 808-9154 or by visiting casalakecounty.com.
Grant approved
A Lake County program that provides pre-employment training for troubled youths has received a $44,280 grant from the federal government.
Funds from the Juvenile Accountability Block Grant Program will go to support the local effort run by the juvenile probation department.
Officials said the money will provide 30 youths with basic job and employment skills and paid internships with local employers.
