Stick to point, not personal attacks

Hey, Fencepost, what's happened to professionalism? Why do you continue to feature unprofessional, dishonest and personal attacks in your letters to the editor? I wrote a fact-based letter on the fiscal damage and job-killing impact of the proposed cap and trade bill designed to alert Fencepost readers of hard facts that they won't get in the mainstream media. Because the Chinese and Indian governments have declared that they won't support cap and trade taxes because they don't want their people to lose their jobs, I humorously suggested that we import Chinese politicians that care about preserving jobs for their people. You then printed a letter to the editor which was clearly dishonest and personally attacked me by name for my letter (note that I am not referencing that author by name). That writer pathetically twisted my words to imply that I wanted the Chinese style of government. It is bad enough that someone would be so dishonest and engage in personal attacks instead of attacking the issues (usually because they don't have the intelligence to debate facts). But it is really sad that the Herald prints letters to the editor that feature personal and dishonest attacks on people that take the personal risk to raise important issues, no matter which side of the issues they are on. Is your goal to stimulate healthy, vigorous, and fact-based debate or childish personal name calling? These are tough and dangerous times and you should encourage fact-based healthy debate and not print dishonest personal attacks. As for me, I have a duty to speak my mind and challenge my government when I think it is wrong and I will continue to do so no matter what names people call me. That is called democracy.
