Mob mentality is cathartic
As I obsess over the health care crisis that apparently will live on to haunt my children and grandchildren, I crave information. This causes me to watch television. This causes me to see town hall meetings and angry, self-described "conservatives."
This leads to thoughts about professional wrestling. I believe I see a connection here. Angry, frustrated, Schwarzenegger wannabes all. Yelling and screaming in these ways is cathartic; and, since one is in a crowd, far removed from the object of the off-color remarks, so the chances of winding up munching on one's own front teeth is radically reduced from saying such things up front and personal, within say, arm's reach of the object of the remarks.
I don't want more polls about the number of self-described "conservatives" who currently believe the president was born in Kenya or is plotting the mass murder of grandparents like me and my wife. I want a poll that tells me what percentage of these screamers have attended a WWF "smack down" within the past six months. I would wager on the outcome.
