Scouting Warren @ Lake Zurich
Warren (5-0, 2-0) at Lake Zurich (2-3, 1-2)
When 7:30 p.m. today
Last week Warren def. Lake Forest, 43-42 in overtime; Lake Zurich lost to Stevenson, 39-21.
Skinny This game will be all about energy. Can Warren sustain it and can Lake Zurich find it again? Warren experience an incredible high last week in scratching tooth and nail to outlast Lake Forest in a high-octane thriller that wasn't decided until overtime. And by the way, Warren didn't score in overtime until fourth down and then went for and got the two-point conversion to get the win. Talk about electric-Meanwhile, Lake Zurich is coming off a game in which the air was taken out of its sails early on. Stevenson rushed to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and the Bears were never able to seriously threaten. To right the ship, Lake Zurich will have to play with the kind of relentless energy that is fitting of a team eager to redeem itself and stay relevant. "Lake Zurich is a very good, very well-coached football team," Warren coach Dave Mohapp said. "And the last time we played there, they spanked us with their state championship team. It's a tough place to play."-Warren had one of its most prolific offensive games of the season against Lake Forest. The Blue Devils rolled up 455 total yards and, as usual, relied heavily on its potent running attack, which features fullback Tom Lindal and running back Greg Kennedy. Lindal tallied 175 yards on 18 carries while Kennedy finished with 151 yards on 21 carries. Lindal scored 2 touchdowns on the day as well as the 2-point conversion-The trouble for Lake Zurich last week was turnovers. The Bears coughed the ball up five times, 3 on interceptions and 2 on fumbles. Jacob Brinlee still managed to roll up 99 rushing yards on 18 carries. "(Brinlee) has such great speed," Mohapp said. "If you give him a crack, he can go the distance. With his style and the way he plays, he can get that crowd over there pretty excited."
