Ex-Round Lake Beach building inspector gets probation

The former director of building inspection services for Round Lake Beach was sentenced to 18 months on probation after pleading guilty to bid stringing.

Phillip Senn, 48, was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service after entering his plea Wednesday before Lake County Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak.

Senn, who worked for the village from 2004 until he was fired in July 2008, oversaw the village's Housing Acquisition and Rehabilitation program.

Assistant State's Attorney Fred Day said Senn, of Wonder Lake, steered a $29,975 house rehabilitation contract to an Elmwood Park construction firm owned by his brother in October 2006.

The following year, Day said, Senn authorized payment of $1,003 to the firm for remodeling work on another house that was never done.

Day said he agreed to drop charges of official misconduct and making false entries in exchange for Senn's guilty plea.

Potkonjak scheduled a hearing for Oct. 28 to determine how much, if any, restitution Senn must pay to the village.
