DuPage County briefs
West Chicago eyes gambling:
West Chicago residents can comment on video gambling when the city's public affairs committee meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at city hall, 475 Main St. The Video Gaming Act, enacted earlier this year in Illinois, allows video gambling terminals at designated restaurants and fraternal organizations that have a liquor license. The games would be allowed unless the city votes to ban them.

Cemetery history:
The West Chicago City Museum sponsors its 20th annual Tales Tombstones Tell today featuring costumed interpreters telling the life stories of former West Chicago residents buried in Oakwood Cemetery at Oakwood and York Avenue. The free program is based on historical fact, not fiction or legend, and includes tales of bravery, fortitude and adventure. Tours begin every 10 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m., with the last tour at 7:45 p.m. For details, call (630) 231-3376 or email museum@westchicago.org.
Action on climate change:
Residents of DuPage and Kane counties interested in climate change can join in a day of action at 1 p.m. Oct. 24 at Hawthorn Grove in Blackwell Forest Preserve along Butterfield Road in Warrenville. Target 350, an event taking place simultaneously worldwide, stands for the 350 parts per million of CO2 that scientists have determined is safe for the planet. Participants will form the numeral 350, a picture of which will be sent to world leaders as well as local legislators. The event also will include a picnic, live music, face painting and games for children. Participants should bring their own picnics. For details, contact Lonnie Morris at herbndove@comcast.net.
'Dine Away Hunger' Oct. 14:
Diners who eat at participating Naperville restaurants on Oct. 14 will help the People's Resource Center food pantry. No forms or coupons are required to participate. The following restaurants will donate 10 percent of their sales for the day to the pantry: Angeli's, Butterfield's, CityGate Grill, The Distinctive Cork, Egg Harbor Cafe, Francesca's Passaggio, Houlihan's, Jilly's, La Sorella de Francesca, Meson Sabika, Potter's Place, Raffi's on 5th, Tangerine Cafe and Walker's Charhouse.
