TV3: Farm Aid goes satellite with DirecTV
Farm Aid goes satellite
DirecTV has been trying to program its 101 Network with the best of lost and almost forgotten TV series, but this weekend it scores a major concert exclusive with the annual Farm Aid benefit from Missouri. As usual, Farm Aid founders and guiding lights Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp perform, this year augmented by Chicago's own Wilco and others. It's at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, on DirecTV's Channel 101.
Ch. 9 pads newscasts
WGN Channel 9 is adding an extra half-hour to its midday and evening newscasts, starting Monday. Allison Payne will reunite with Steve Sanders for the midday news from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Mark Suppelsa will do the evening news with Lourdes Duarte from 5 to 6 p.m. Suppelsa and Micah Materre are co-anchors for the hourlong news at 9 p.m.
HBO hits hypocrisy
As if Bill Maher's "Real Time" weren't enough to irk right-wing politicians, HBO presents the confrontational 90-minute political documentary "Outrage" at 8 p.m. Monday. Filmmaker Kirby Dick goes after closeted politicians who fight against gay rights.
Watch those rings
Turner Classic Movies launches the new genre-oriented documentary series "A Night at the Movies" at 7 p.m. Friday with a look at "The Suspenseful World of Thrillers" featuring Alfred Hitchcock. Best of all is that the Hitchcock films "Rear Window" and "Shadow of a Doubt" follow at 8 and 11 p.m. "Shadow of a Doubt" is a fairly routine mystery marked by Hitchcock's unique sense of style. Be sure to keep an eye on those rings.
