Illinoisans warned about carbon monoxide poisoning
SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources wants hunters, boaters and campers to be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide.
The department, along with the Illinois Conservation Police, says authorities responded to two separate incidents on houseboats in 2008 that led to the deaths of five people from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Illinois Conservation Police Chief Rafael Gutierrez says carbon monoxide detectors should be installed on boats and campers. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas.
Authorities say other tips to stay safe include making sure your boat or camper is well ventilated and using proper replacement parts to repair equipment.
