Probe continues in Bannockburn slaying

Lake County police on Monday continued their investigation into the death of a 30-year-old Elmwood Park man whose body was discovered in Bannockburn early Friday morning.

Robert Montanez, 30, was found shot twice in the head about 4:30 a.m. on Dunsinane Lane by a newspaper delivery person.

Donald Smith, commander of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, said detectives are following several leads in the case and declined to comment further.

Police have said they believe it is possible Montanez, who had a blood-alcohol level of 0.3 percent at the time of his death, may have been shot elsewhere and dumped in the village.

The murder is the first in the community's 80-year history.
