Tuesday's Lake County roundup
Lakes' boys soccer team gave the defending Class 3A state champs all it could handle and nearly pulled out a nonconference victory.
New Trier netted the equalizer with 19 seconds left, salvaging a 2-2 tie Tuesday.
Jonathan Stanley and William Lebavitz scored for Lakes (6-6-3). Lebavitz's goal was his team-leading sixth. Steven Korosis set up both tallies, giving him a team-best 9 assists.
Zion-Benton 2, Round Lake 1: The Zee-Bees overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit, scoring the winning goal on a penalty kick with about 12 minutes left.
"I thought we outplayed them the second half, but that's soccer," Panthers coach Mike Hruska said.
Jose Garcia scored for Round Lake (6-3-2).
Lake Zurich 6, Libertyville 1: Nick Janus had 3 goals and an assist, as the Bears improved to 11-4 and 3-1 in the North Suburban Lake.
Brett Harper, Nate Holicky and Luis Corral also scored for Lake Zurich, while Tim Kreutz had 2 assists. Jack Rathe and Brenden Seeger set up goals as well.
Grayslake Central 7, Woodstock North 1: Caleb Longenecker had 2 goals, giving him 10 for the season, and an assist, as the Rams won their second straight.
Grayslake Central also received goals from Byron Perez, Jose Roman, Asa Goldsmith, Carlos Sanroman and Ryan Fontana.
Sebastian Bibat had 2 assists, while Perez, Goldsmith, Albert Acosta and Bryant Olmos had one each.
Diego Gomez recorded his second straight win in net with 6 saves.
Warren 3, Glenbrook South 1: The Blue Devils scored three times in the second half.
Danny Szczepanek, John Trout and Michael Hanachek scored for Warren (8-3-2), with Andrew Piotrowski, Danny Herrera and Ruben Gayton collecting assists.
Grayslake North 3, Woodstock 2: Freshman Carson Klarck scored the game winning goal with less than three minutes left off a pass from senior Hans Germain, as the Knights rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit.
Germain and senior Brian Stout also scored for Grayslake North (5-10, 4-5 Fox Valley Fox). Freddy Rosas and Mike Tednes had assists as well for the Knights.
"Tonight was a great game in which we showed a ton of growth and promise as the season progresses," Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said.
