Winter gear for kids needed to fill Frosty's Closet

In preparation for its 2009 Frosty's Closet event, the Junior League of Kane and DuPage Counties Inc. will hold a winter outerwear drive Oct. 12-30.

The organization of women dedicated to improving the lives of children at risk throughout DuPage, Kane, Will and Kendall counties has partnered with area businesses to collect gently-worn coats and other cold-weather gear to replenish its inventory.

Created to address a growing need in our communities, Frosty's Closet is a children's outerwear boutique that provides needy families with appropriate cold-weather gear. Parents are able to bring their children to Frosty's Closet and leave with coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, boots and more - all free of charge.

"Every child deserves to have proper gear for winter and that is what Frosty's Closet is all about," says league President Jeni Kahley of Geneva. "Many who came to our first-ever event last year showed up with no coats at all. While we were able to serve close to 500 children, there were still many we could not outfit due to lack of supplies. Our goal this year is to make sure that every child goes home with the outerwear they need to stay warm and safe during the cold winter months."

Winter gear in sizes to fit children from infants to teens can be donated at any of the following Frosty's Closet drop-off locations Oct. 12-30. All donations are tax deductible.

• Aurora: First Centennial Mortgage, 2471 W. Sullivan Road;

• Geneva: Gymboree, 705 E. State St.; KinderCare, 1400 Hill Road; KinderCare, 2323 Fargo Blvd.; and RELAX Excels, 1772 S. Randall Road, Suite 100.

• Naperville: Northern Trust, 401 S Main St.

• St. Charles: Aviva MedSpa, 3310 W. Main St.
