Maldonado runs into Leyden record book

When Angel Maldonado was a sophomore he helped Josh Serrano set the Leyden single-game rushing record with 276 yards.

On Friday night in Berwyn, Maldonado ran his way into the Leyden (3-2, 2-1) record book with 286 yards on 40 carries in a 33-14 West Suburban Gold victory at Morton (1-4, 0-3).

Maldonado also scored 4 touchdowns and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season with 1,008 yards.

"Our O-line was just dominating," said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani. "(Dan) Kiebler and James Flosi were unbelievable."

Quarterback David Rose was 7-for-12 passing for 140 yards and ran for the other score. Mike Cassanave returned an interception 80 yards but was stopped short of a touchdown.
