Scouting: Deerfield @ Maine West
CENTRAL SUBURBAN NORTH
Deerfield (2-2) at Maine West (1-3)
When 7:30 p.m. today
Last week Deerfield lost to Evanston 35-13; Maine West lost to Maine South 63-0
Outlook Stopping Deerfield dual-threat QB Matt Healy (723 yards passing, 9 TDs) will be the key for Maine West, which will be without MLB Eric Schlacks (shoulder) and CB Tony Fitzpatrick (possible foot stress fracture). "Deerfield allows (Healy) to play the game and he does a great job," said Maine West coach Chris Hare. "Those are two very key players that are hard to replace." The Warriors hope to keep Healy away from the ball as much as possible with the running of senior Charlie Vana and the play of QB Ron Gajewski. And even last week against the defending Class 8A state champions Hare continued to see the change in attitude he's been looking for. "We've worked really hard at competing," Hare said. "One of our biggest weaknesses (in the past) was when we got down we'd fold. This year we haven't seen that." Deerfield has won 8 of the last 9 meetings in a series it leads 22-11 since 1970.
