Why has our nation deserted God?
As our country faces crisis in almost every realm, many wonder "where did God go?" The real question should be "what did we do with God?" God is still here unchanged, but we as a nation have not only ignored him but intentionally tried to eliminate his existence.
America was founded in the name of God. The Mayflower Compact begins "In the name of God, Amen" and continues with "Having undertaken for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith ..."
"One nation under God" was how our country was established by the founding fathers: Patrick Henry, "It cannot be emphasized too strongly, nor too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The examples are endless and yet we removed God from government, schools and laws and replace him with men who have their own agenda and often thrive to play god themselves.
How foolish to think that our desertion of God has nothing to do with our becoming a Godless society without concern neither for our fellow man nor for life itself. No wonder we face the crises of today when our country endorses abortion, same-sex marriages and protects the atheist's rights while trampling on Christianity? Is it a surprise that our society once built on capitalism and equal opportunity is rapidly (and perhaps by design) turning into socialism?
As Christians we pray for our country and the wisdom for our leaders. When we vocalize our concerns and beliefs we are viewed as being non-politically correct or discriminating. Yet, what could be more politically correct than speaking out to our leaders? What could be less discriminating than seeking a country that truly is under God?
