Public help sought in Libertyville robbery

The FBI is asking for help in identifying two men who robbed the Great Lakes Credit Union in Libertyville at gunpoint in April.

"We're hoping somebody will recognize something distinct about these individuals," said FBI Spokeswoman Cynthia Yates.

Two masked gunmen entered the credit union, 1509 N. Milwaukee Ave., just before 10 a.m. April 13 in a "takeover style" incident, Yates said.

"It's a situation where weapons are involved and they're used to control the employees and customers," she explained.

The gunmen threatened several bank employees if their demand for cash wasn't met, although no injuries were reported.

One of the robbers entered on crutches but dropped them in the lobby when he pulled a gun. The intruder held a bank employee and two bank customers at bay while his partner forced a teller to empty the drawer of cash into a backpack, according to the FBI.

Two other bank employees were forced into the vault area, where an additional undisclosed amount of money was taken.

The robbers were last seen leaving in a beige colored car, which had neither a rear license plate nor hubcaps on its left side.

The robbers were described as 20 to 25 years old, both about 6 feet tall with slim builds. They were wearing similar dark-colored jackets with hoods and ski masks covering their faces.

One of the men was wearing baggy blue jeans with light-colored back pockets, black tennis shows, dark-colored gloves and a black knit hat with a bill. The other was wearing blue jeans, white gloves with black on the inside and a dark blue or black baseball hat.

It is the only bank robbery reported this year in Libertyville.

Both men are considered armed and dangerous, according to Yates.

She said the agency periodically revisits certain cases to try and job the public's memory but that there was nothing new to report concerning this specific incident.

Anyone who recognizes the men or with information should call the FBI Chicago office at (312) 421-6700.
