Kids' clothing sale:

Western Avenue Elementary School's PTO will have a children's clothing and toy rummage sale from 6 to 9 tonight (no strollers or children younger than 10) and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The school is at 1500 Western Ave., Geneva.

Free CPR class:

The St. Charles Countryside Fire Protection District will present free CPR training at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Village Hall, 5N430 Railroad St. Seating is limited. To register, call (630) 377-4458.

Trunk sale in St. Charles:

The second annual Trunk Sale at Bethlehem Lutheran Church is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 1145 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles. Collectibles, books, toys, sports equipment, new crafts, jewelry and more will be for sale. For details, contact Michelle at (630) 377-5879 or visit bethlehemluth.org.

Hike for Hospice:

The Hike for Hospice, a 5K walk along the Fox River to honor loved ones, is at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Peg Bond Center, 151 Island Ave. in Batavia. All registered walkers will receive a T-shirt, and there will be face painting, massages, refreshments, and prizes for the top fundraisers. The fee is $25 for those 13 and older, $15 for ages 7 to 12, free for 6 and younger. Proceeds go to Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice. Register at fvvh.org; call (630) 232-2233; or e-mail info@fvvh.org.

Elgin film festival nears:

The first Elgin Short Film Festival will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Admission is $5 and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. For details or tickets, call (847) 931-5940 or visit hemmens.org.

See new school:

The Geneva school district will dedicate the new Fabyan Elementary School at 1 p.m. Sunday. An open house will follow until 3 p.m. The school is at 0S350 Grengs Lane.

White House staffer at AU:

The deputy assistant press secretary to ex-President George W. Bush will discuss politics and his White House service at 6 p.m. Monday in Aurora University's Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place. Pete Seat spent more than three years on the White House staff working for Tony Snow and Dana Perino. He served as a White House spokesman and organized trips for the White House press corps. His speech is free and sponsored by the university's political science club.
