Firefighter hospitalized in McHenry Co. fire

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion early Thursday afternoon responding to a house fire in Marengo, officials said.

An elderly woman and her 4-year-old grandson were at the home on Route 23, north of River Road, when the blaze broke out, said Marengo Fire Department Batallion Chief Bill Weiss. Both escaped unharmed.

Weiss said the cause is under investigation and the house is uninhabitable. No damage estimate was available.

Rescue personnel from several departments, including Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Harvard and Union, also assisted.
