Look past protests for health care facts

Representative Biggert admitted her health care comments were "a little inflammatory." Actually her comments were worse than that - they were lies.

The current health care reform being designed does not have "death counselors," or some kind of government intervention to determine who lives and who dies as she implied. As Mr. Atterberg noted in his letter, that "decider" already exists and it is not the government.

It is the insurance company, usually a low-level case manager who is looking for ways to deny service that increases the company's profits.

News reports aren't even covering the issues with health care, and there are legitimate issues, such as cost. Instead they run reports on the contentious disruptions and shouting down of officials trying to answer questions. However, I hope they continue to show segments of these angry meetings for a different reason.

Encouraged by one network in particular, they show the rest of us the true face of a position based on out-of-control emotions, misinformation, and an unwillingness to admit the legitimacy of a differing view.

Let me ask all readers out there, when you see the angry, spiteful, don't- mess-with-me mobs at those meetings - are those really the people you want to determine what health care you can have?
