Wheeling park board approves roadwork, names new commish

The Wheeling Park District board has approved the construction of a connecting road between the new Wheeling village hall and the park district's Community Recreation Center, 333 W. Dundee Road.

Ten companies vied for the $94,376 contract, awarded on Sept. 15 to Schroeder Asphalt Services, Inc. Work will begin in October to extend Community Boulevard to the recreation center parking lot.

Ultimately, the intersection of Community Boulevard and Dundee Road will be signalized.

The board also appointed Rich Rosen to replace commissioner Vivian Smith, who resigned her seat Aug. 1, a park district official said Wednesday.

Rosen was sworn in Sept. 15. Smith was elected to a four-year term in April. Rosen will serve on the board until the next municipal election in April 2011, at which time the seat will be up for re-election as a two-year term.

A Wheeling resident who served on the Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 school board, Rosen was the appointed liaison between the school district and the park district.
