Chief Illiniwek is still missed
It's that time of year again; time for college football, tradition and mascots.
The University of Illinois, however, isn't allowed to demonstrate tradition nor have a mascot. The Chief used to dance at football games while wearing an authentic Indian costume. That right was stripped by a few radicals who claimed the performance was demeaning to Native Americans.
Yet, the Florida State Seminoles still have their Chief. He rides out on his horse, Renegade, before each game dressed in Indian garb while carrying a lit torch and a spear. Apparently, the radicals find this behavior less demeaning than that of a skilled dancer.
