Little Limelight cafe back for fourth year

The Buffalo Grove Arts Commission is back with another opportunity for performers in grades 2-8. The Little Limelight Cafe will be 7-9 p.m. Oct. 16, at Tripp School, 850 Highland Grove Drive, Buffalo Grove.

Acts, which will be done in front of an audience, can be instrumental or vocal, dance, solos, duets or small groups.

Auditions will be held by appointment, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 2. Performers must bring a karaoke instrumental track or recorded piano accompaniment - vocal performances cannot bring a CD that has the original performer audible - and should be three minutes or less.

Signup deadline is Sept. 25; e-mail BGArts@vbg.org and include each performer's name, grade, school, parent contact name, phone number, e-mail address and type of performance; or call (847) 459-2518. Visit vbg.org. Priority will be given to Buffalo Grove students.

Pumpkinfest kicks off EGV church sale

Prince of Peace United Methodist Church, 1400 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village, will hold Pumpkin Fest 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 3 to kick off its annual sale of pumpkins. Pumpkin Fest will have a craft show, music, free face painting, moonwalk and children's games. Admission is free.

The Pumpkin Patch, with pumpkins and gourds for sale, will be at Devon Avenue and Arlington Heights Road. Hours are 3-7 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday from Oct. 3 through Halloween.

Hersey pom squad invites girls to clinic

The John Hersey High School Poms Squad is offering any girl grades 1st-8th, the opportunity to experience high school Poms at a clinic, noon-4:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in the East Gym at Hersey. Girls will learn poms, hip-hop and jazz and improve their dance skills. Hersey is at 1900 E. Thomas St. in Arlington Heights.

The girls will have the chance to display their newly learned techniques at halftime of the varsity Homecoming soccer game against Wheeling High School on Oct. 9.

The registration fee, $25 in advance and $30 at the door, includes the clinic, halftime performance, T-shirt and snack. For details and registration form, visit jhhs.d214.org.

Dist. 62 student design contest is underway

All Des Plaines Elementary District 62 students are invited to enter the 2009 winter greeting card design contest.

The winner's design will appear on a card that is sent during the holiday season and displayed on the District 62 Web site, and the artist will be honored at the Nov. 16 school board meeting. Second and Third place winners will also be honored.

Entries must be no larger than 5x7 inches and reflect a winter theme, done in color. Deadline to enter is Oct. 23; winners will be notified by Oct. 29.
