BGHS honors 6 students for month of September
Buffalo Grove High School has chosen its Students of the Month for September.
Nicole Delaney, senior from Buffalo Grove; nominated by chemistry teacher Andy Park for the Math/Science award: "Nicole has had an excellent start so far in my A.P. Chemistry class," Park said. "She has also taken on a great responsibility as she started her Calculus 3, a distance learning program through the University of Illinois. She has already distinguished herself as an exemplary student in both the math and science arenas, and her dedication and hard work stand out as positive examples to her peers."
Brian Gates, senior from Arlington Heights; nominated by teacher Kyle Pichik for the Career and Technology Education award: "Brian has taken all of the Project Lead the Way classes here at Buffalo Grove and has shown great leadership in all three," Pichik said. "Brian has helped set the path for other students, as all his PLTW classes have been brand new courses. He always shows dedication to his work and his school, as well as his community."
Jack Moran, sophomore from Buffalo Grove; nominated by social science teacher Stephanie Nishimoto for the Foreign Language/Social Science/ESL award: "Jack is a very inquisitive student," said Nishimoto. "He has shown leadership skills in my Freshmen advisory and in Mrs. Warner's Spanish 1 class. He adds flavor to the class with his comical stories, when appropriate. Jack also contributes to class discussions and includes others around him during group work."
Michelle O'Leary, sophomore from Arlington Heights; nominated by Assistant Principal for Student Services, Trisha Dean for the Student Services award: "Michelle received a challenging medical diagnosis last year and finished the school year with homebound tutoring," Dean said. "Throughout all of this, she managed to obtain all A's and one B last year. She is currently back full speed and doing well, and is just an all-around great girl."
Amanda Salzman, senior from Arlington Heights; nominated by P.E. teacher Teri Janus for the Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education award: "Amanda has the best freshman 12-minute run score," Janus said. "In the few weeks that she has been here, she already demonstrates strong characteristics of an excellent Physical Education student."
Ashley Weldon, senior, from Buffalo Grove; nominated by English teacher and newspaper adviser Lauren Kraft for the English/Fine Arts award: "Ashley is editor in chief of the Charger," said Kraft. "Her attitude has really propelled the staff to work hard and she has set strong and focused goals for the staff this year."
