This is what's wrong with health system

Started reading the "Losing a critical care safety net?" article in the Sept. 8 edition and stopped after reading the 1st paragraph stating "Janie Johnson has no health insurance, so when she cut her toe while giving herself a pedicure, she limped to the emergency room at one of Chicago's safety-net hospitals and waited her turn."

Had to immediately ask myself - So what's wrong with a Band-aid and some antiseptic ointment? Why is this lady running off to the emergency room to run up a medical bill? How bad could the cut have been if you were just giving yourself a pedicure unless she was using a chain saw? Then it came to me - of course, she's has no health insurance and she's not going to pay for the emergency room visit.

Us poor working stiffs are going to pay for her running off to the emergency room.

Folks, this is part of what's wrong with the health care system. Run up an emergency room bill probably in the hundreds of dollars when a Band-aid would have worked and leave it to the rest of us to pay for her stupidity.
