Fox Valley arts group seeks Hall of Fame nominations

The directors of the Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame don't know every artist who has ever lived or worked in the Fox Valley. So they want help finding who to induct in 2010.

"It's just amazing how these things come about," said Susan Starrett, president of the hall of fame board.

The group learned of mid-20th century opera star Anna de Cavalieri, for example, from someone who had bought the Aurora house where she grew up as Anne McKnight.

Nominations are due Nov. 1. Forms are available on the group's Web site, foxvalleyarts.org, or from Starrett, (630) 605-4000. The winners will be announced in January, followed by an induction ceremony/banquet.

Candidates should have completed at least 20 years in their field, attained national or international recognition, and be affiliated with the Fox Valley through birth, adoption, education, residence or service. Categories include literary, performing, media and visual arts, and "other" (for educators, curators and benefactors).

The hall of fame inducts people every other year. In the off years, it presents a major performance or art show.

This year, the group is presenting the world-renowned Pacifica Quartet string ensemble in a concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at Neuqua Valley High School, 2350 95th St., Naperville. Tickets are $15 for students, $20 for senior citizens and $25 for other adults. To make a reservation, call Starrett, or call (847) 464-5615.
