Kindness has power to alleviate grief

I would like to recognize an act of kindness that helped the healing process when my miniature Schnauzer, Leddy, was hit by a car and killed Thursday night, 9/10/09.

My neighbor, Amanda Riend, spotted Leddy on the side of the road and, after calling me in tears, stood watch over her body until the good people of the Public Works Department of Des Plaines removed her.

This unselfish act touched my heart and allows me in a time of deep sorrow to see a ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy situation.

It should also not go unnoticed that some kind neighbors have hung their flag at half staff to support me in my time of grief. I can never thank these people enough and it helps restore my faith in humanity.
