Lions host annual barbecue Tuesday

The Dundee Lions Club will sponsor their 14th annual barbecue featuring Fay's Pork Chop from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Max Freeman Park in East Dundee. It will feature pork chops and chicken. Corn will also be served. Tickets are $12 in advance or $13 at the gate. Carryout will be available. There will also be an antique car show and the hearing van from Lions International will be there for those who wish to have their hearing checked between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time from members.

Insurance seminar offered on Tuesday

Oak Crest Hope Cottage Memory Center, 204 S. State St., Elgin, will host an informational seminar, "Long Term Care Insurance: 101," at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. Sandy Essex, a certified long term care insurance agent with Genworth Financial, will provide the basics of long term care insurance to help clear up any confusion. American Legion offers bingo special

The Huntley American Legion, 11712 W. Coral St., will feature $1 Bingo Night for seniors on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Play for only $1 a game. Sessions are held at 7 p.m. every Wednesday. Also featured is a $1,000 games on Sept. 30. For details, call (847) 669-8485.

Oak Crest hosts community dinner

Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments, 204 S. State St. (Route 31) in Elgin will host a community dinner at 6 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21. Relax in the Oak Crest Cellar Pub listening to live music while enjoying your choice of roast pork on the carvery board accompanied by red skin potatoes or pan seared Salmon served with a lemon dill tartar sauce. Financial seminars offered in Elgin

CHOICES will host free financial literacy seminars at 7 p.m. every other Thursday, starting Sept. 24 at the Elgin United Way, 2022 Larkin Ave. "After The $torm: Rebuilding Your Personal Finance$" will help Elgin-area adults who survived the economic storm and want to rebuild their personal finances. They will provide a safe place to construct a strong financial foundation; equip people with a financial rebuilding tool kit of concepts, principles and practical tips. Fibromyalgia offers support event

National Fibromyalgia Association and NW Fibromyalgia Support Group invite all Fibromyalgia patients to attend a free Fibro Focus Event on Tuesday, Sept. 22, which will feature a local physician who will discuss symptoms, treatment options and tips to control symptoms and also information about medication sponsored by Pfizer. There will be a question-and-answer session and refreshments after the presentation. Over 5 million people in the United States are affected by fibromyalgia. Society hosts open house Thursday

Cremation Society of Illinois announces the opening of its 10th location with an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at 41 N. Virginia Street, Unit B, Crystal Lake. The public is invited. Penny social offered by VFW Post 5915

The Carpentersville Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5915 will hold its annual Penny Social on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Tri-City Evergreen VFW Post, 117 S. First St. in West Dundee. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and numbers will be called beginning at 7 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the veterans and the community. The Penny Social is the auxiliary's largest fundraiser of the year. The proceeds help to further the organization's goals such as donating to the local police department, fire department, Little League, Boys and Girls Club, homeless, Crisis Center, Cancer Society Society, flags to schools, different scholarship programs and more. The evening will include table prizes and door prizes and refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome.

Dance to the Big Band sounds
