Caterpillar's dealer sales down

Caterpillar Inc. announced Monday that dealer sales of its heavy equipment dropped 48 percent in August. Locally, Caterpillar has operations in Montgomery.

The world's largest maker of earth-moving equipment said dealer sales of its equipment fell 57 percent in North America in August, slightly better than the 59 percent July drop.

The company reported that the sharpest declines were seen in the U.S. blue-chip industrials truck and bus and industrial segments.
