Hampshire notches first win of season
Hampshire (1-3) rolled to a 32-0 shutout victory at Byron Friday night, picking up its first win of the season.
Hampshire wasted little time in the first quarter getting on the board as Ron Laramie took a Ryan Burke handoff right up the gut for a 38-yard touchdown run with 9:27 remaining in the first quarter.
The Whip-Purs' defense held its ground as they forced Byron into a 3-and-out situation. On the ensuing drive Caleb Kendrick then broke away with a 59-yard run that set up a 3-yard touchdown run for Laramie's second score of the game.
With two failed extra point attempts, Hampshire took a 12-0 lead into the second quarter.
After starting on their own 20, penalties pushed the Whip-Purs back to the 8-yard line. Burke then threw a 92-yard, in stride pass to Ray Quesada, who raced in for the touchdown. Laramie then punched in the 2- point conversion to give Hampshire a 20-0 lead.
The Whip-Purs weren't done yet as they put together a 69-yard drive with 1:04 remaining in the half that was capped off by a Burke fade pass to a wide open Quesada in the back corner of the end zone. After another missed extra point opportunity, Hampshire took a 26-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The second half saw less scoring and more solid defense by both teams.
Byron threatened in the third quarter as it was in a 4th-and-goal situation on the 4-yard line but the Whip-Purs' defense held strong and took over on downs.
Hampshire's final scoring play of the night came on a Kendrick 29-yard run through the line giving Hampshire a victory with the final score of 32-0.
