Three taken to hospital after Kane Co. crash

Three people were taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin after a head-on crash Thursday afternoon in Pingree Grove.

Pingree Grove Sgt. Rich Blair said Ellen Haim, 63, of North Aurora, was driving a 2001 Saturn S1 northbound on Route 47 near Route 20 when her vehicle left the roadway and plowed through about 200 yards of cornfield on the west side of the road. Haim then returned to Route 47 in the southbound lanes and crashed into a 2000 Ford Escape driven by Frances Osenberg, 73, of DeKalb. Osenberg's husband, Warren Osenberg, 83, was a passenger in that vehicle. All three were taken to hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, police said.

Before the accident, witnesses reported seeing Haim's vehicle swerving from the western shoulder to the eastern shoulder for miles, police said. It is believed Haim was suffering from an unspecified medical condition, sheriff's police say.
