Heat lamp triggers Naperville fire

A heat lamp in a snake cage apparently triggered an apartment fire that caused less than $5,000 damage Friday at 806 N. Washington St., Naperville.

Firefighters, who responded at 2:47 p.m., said the lamp burned through the platform supporting the cage, an adjacent piece of carpeting and a small top layer of flooring.

It took firefighters only minutes to put out the blaze.

Naperville Animal Control officers were called to assist with a variety of reptiles that had been kept in the cage.
