Cop tries to free skunk from mayo jar
Did ya hear the one about the skunk that got its head caught in a mayonnaise jar?
In this case, there is no punch line. Rather, it was a genuine incident with a Buffalo Grove police officer doing the dirty work late Friday in an apartment complex on Johnson Drive west of Milwaukee Avenue and Lake-Cook Road, bordering Chevy Chase Country Club.
Police Sgt. Mike Millett said the officer was sent to the complex about 9 p.m. after a resident noticed the skunk moving around with its head in the mayo jar. He said the cop spent 25 minutes on the effort without success, but he wasn't ready to give up.
"We've got a brave guy out there trying to pull its head out," Millett said.
Millett they were trying to get some ideas on how best to free the skunk from Internet searches at Buffalo Grove police headquarters, but were not having any immediate luck. He said no one wants to break the glass.
Buffalo Grove doesn't have an animal control unit, so police respond to calls involving critters, said Millett.
